Memento Mori is interested in what happens when we let death stand beside us. Exploring our finitude as a human creates a greater possibility of connection from the heart with all that is, whether humans, animals, plants, the soil, the stars... well, everything… We are a tiny part of something much bigger and deeply interconnected with all that is. Life and death are part of a bigger whole that is our universe.

Deep time and ancestry
Exploring the long journey – from stars to stone to flesh. We recognise connection to our human ancestors, but also with all life and the cosmos itself – we call this Ancestral Celestial. We listen to that which came before us, which forms us, but also that which we will go on to form. What legacy will we leave Earth and what will we become?
Awe, beauty and wonder
Letting encounters with landscape, life and finitude dazzle us, wow us, take us out of ourselves and bring us alive – and knowing that sometimes that feels a little scary.
Creativity and play
Play and creativity are at the heart of what we do. The inner child is strong here and we share a deep love of music, dancing and your basic silliness.
Grief and love
Grief and love are bound together. We are open to feeling our grief as tribute to that which we love and have loved, and that includes the grief we feel about the harms being done to this Earth.
Seasonal and threshold gatherings
Marking endings, beginnings, and transitions – we work with the seasons and cycles of nature. We journey into the bardo, that place between life and death, and we take the view that liminal spaces are often where the new is birthed – again, we accept that this sometimes scary!

Memento Mori was started by Becky Ambury and Michael Havard. Becky is a writer, mental health nurse, yoga teacher and death doula. She retrained as a nurse after volunteering at a HIV hospice in London, following a career working on magazines. Passionate about the wonder of our world and aware that we are nature, she seeks to unite human wellbeing and planetary wellbeing as one and the same thing and believes that the concept of death can help us connect with a realness and vulnerability that can act as an antidote to the superficial and often harmful way we live today.
Michael Havard completed a Masters in Sustainability and Behaviour Change at the Centre for Alternative Technology. He believes that there is joy and meaning to be had in connecting with nature and in bringing people together around it.
Becky and Michael are joined by Melissa Cohen, who specialises in crafts, food and creating inviting spaces outside and indoors. Melissa trained as an architect, is a communications specialist, a passionate ceramicist, loving cook and good egg.
